P-40 Stats

P-40E of the 11st Fighter Squadron

One of the most iconic and commonly used aircraft during World War II was the Curtiss P-40. I keep coming across various iterations in the scenarios I am designing, whether set in the Aleutians, Pacific, Burma, or North Africa. To that end I have tried to come up with the stats for every commonly used model during the war:

  1. From Wikipedia - P-40 Warhawk was the name the United States Army Air Corps gave the plane, and after June 1941, the USAAF adopted the name for all models, making it the official name in the US for all P-40s. The British Commonwealth and Soviet air forces used the name Tomahawk for models equivalent to the original P-40, P-40B, and P-40C (Curtiss Model 81), and the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants (Curtiss Model 87).

Tomahawk is generally used in scenario descriptions for models before 1941. I use Warhawk for US later models and Kittyhawk for British planes.

Thanks for generating this extensive list of P-40 stats.

  2. Hi Darryl. Stumbled on your site. You have some really interesting scenarios! I do love the more unusual aircraft matchups. Note that the Soviets reengined a lot of P40E with Klimov engines, much to their detriment. Cheers , Pete. https://www.atkinswargames.co.uk/
